Quarterback Sean Schroeder and offensive lineman Kapua Sai have been accepted into the University of Hawaii’s graduate school and will be eligible to play for the Warriors this football season.
Schroeder was at Duke the past three years and Sai, a Saint Louis School graduate, played for Utah last year.
They are using an NCAA rule that allows a player who has earned a bachelor’s degree to transfer to another school without sitting out a season. The NCAA requires a football player without a degree to redshirt for a year before being eligible to play for his next school.
UH head coach Norm Chow said Schroeder will compete for the starting quarterback’s job. Last year’s starting quarterback, Bryant Moniz, completed his eligibility. David Graves and Jeremy Higgins were bracketed as the top quarterbacks after spring training in April.
Chow said Sai will compete at center.
