Hawaii island firefighters continued to battle hot spots of a 400-acre brush fire yesterday in North Kona, according to the Fire Department.
The fire flared up near the intersection of Hina Lani Street and Queen Kaahumanu Highway on Wednesday. It was nearly extinguished on Saturday, with five to six hot spots remaining, one of which was extinguished this morning, a department spokesman said.
The department estimated the losses at around $40,000.
The fire is expected to be wrapped up today.
