Pasha Hawaii to compete with Matson on container service

By Star-Advertiser Staff

Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines, LLC, which until now has provided shipping service for vehicles between the West Coast and Hawaii, said today it has added container shipping.

Pashas ship, the MV Jean Anne, has been modified to ship up to 50 standard 40-foot containers on each trip. The first shipment of containers arrived in Honolulu last week, the company said

The Jean Anne has been providing roll-on, roll-off service since its launch in 2005. The ship has been used for a wide range of vehicles, yachts, heavy machinery, and oversized cargo, the company said. The Jean Anne makes regular calls every two weeks between San Diego and Hilo, Kahului, and Honolulu, with Nawiliwili added as needed.

Pasha Hawaii had been approached by many of our customers to expand our specialized shipping services to include container shipping, said Reggie Maldonado, General Manager of Pasha Hawaii. We are pleased to be able to offer this new service to our customers.

Pasha, based in Corte Madera, Calif., will compete with Matson Inc. and Horizon Lines. Inc. for container customers.

Sorry, but ocean shipping charges can only go so low even with competition. The Longshoreman's Union controls the docks and Matson, Horizon & Pasha will all have to pay their big buck wages or the shipment doesn't move.
