The state announced Monday that Hunting Units A and J on Kauai will be closed indefinitely because of a high risk of fire.

The closure will affect the upcoming goat and deer hunting seasons in those areas, which cover portions of the Puu Ka Pele Forest Reserve, Kekaha Game Management Area, and Waimea Canyon State Park.

Other portions of Waimea Canyon State Park, such as the Waimea Canyon Lookout, and Polihale Pavilion, will remain open to the public. For more information, call the Division of Forestry and Wildlife at 274-3433.
