The city Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man who died Saturday after being shot as Jerrend Kaanoi, 42, of Waianae.

Police have opened a murder investigation following the discovery of Kaanoi’s body in a parked vehicle about 11:45 p.m. at Honowai Neighborhood Park in Waipahu, police said.

The man had been shot at least once, police said.

Today, CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department issued a bulletin seeking information or witnesses to the incident. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300, or *CRIME on your cellular phone.

The Medical Examiner’s Office said a determination of the cause and manner of death is pending further investigation.

The Hawaii Paroling Authority said Kaanoi has three felony convictions for promotion of a dangerous drug. Kaanoi was on parole at the time of death.

His last drug conviction was in 2007. He was sentenced to five years, but the parole board set his minimum sentence to three years and he was released on parole in April 2011.
