Sierra Club starts website critical of Hannemann's environmental record

By Star-Advertiser staff

POSTED:

The Sierra Club Political Committee has launched a website critical of congressional candidate Mufi Hannemann’s environmental record after the former Honolulu mayor touted his environmental accomplishments in an email this week.

“We were amazed by some of his assertions, and wanted to set the record straight," Robert Harris, director of the Sierra Club, Hawaii Chapter, said in a news release Tuesday.

The Sierra Club has endorsed City Councilwoman Tulsi Gabbard, Hannemann’s main opponent in the Democratic primary for Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District.

Yeah it's quite information. Mufi was asking for trouble by posing as an environmentalist given his disastrous record.

The site should include the fact that he wanted to triple the amount of lighting on Lunalilo Home Road using 40-year-old technology. It was only after residents got involved with the project that he agreed to use fully-shielded lights and reduce the wattage so that there was only a 40% increase in lighting on part of the street. Unfortunately, we're stuck with 3x the amount of lighting from Kalanianaole Hwy. to Wailua (by the fire station).

The wires are all underground, so I don't think that's much of a problem.

And WHO the HGAF what the Sierra Club thinks? I certainly don't subscribe to their self-righteous bluster, as if they have any legitimate right to dictate governmental policy.
