Southern Californians sweltering in record heat

By Associated Press

POSTED:

LOS ANGELES >> Southern Californians have been sweltering in record heat and forecasters say it will be a hot weekend.

Thursday's high at Los Angeles International Airport was 86 degrees, breaking a record of 84 degrees set in 1951.

In Ventura County, Camarillo Airport reached 82 degrees to tie a record set on July 19, 1974.

The National Weather Service says a building high pressure system will keep temperatures hot through the weekend.

Temperatures in downtown Los Angeles and valley areas will reach into the 90s. It will be in the 70s at the beaches and in the 100s in the desert.

Desert and mountain areas could see showers and thunderstorms because of a monsoonal air flow from the south.
