By Star-Advertiser staff

POSTED:

A small brush fire flared up this afternoon near the Sports Authority in Kapolei, according to fire officials.

The three-acre fire that started in the open lot on the Waianae side of the Sports Authority building was called in around 3:30 p.m. and deemed fully contained at 4:02 p.m., Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Carlton Yamada said.

No injuries were reported, and no structures, including the store, were threatened by the nearby fire, Yamada said.

Five fire companies, two tankers and around 25 firefighters put out the blaze.

Yamada said the cause remains undetermined.
