Japanese tourist, 64, drowns after being found face down off Waikiki

A 64-year-old Japanese visitor drowned Monday after he was found unresponsive in the ocean fronting Kuhio Beach Park, authorities said.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office identified the man as Mitsushiro Yamashita, of Tokyo, and determined he drowned in an accident.

Police said Yamashita, who had been swimming, was pulled from the water unresponsive and taken to the hospital where he died.
