Man, 46, charged with robbery in backpack theft attempt

Authorities charged a 46-year-old homeless man Monday with second-degree robbery. 

Melvin Willis allegedly assaulted a 47-year-old man Sunday morning and tried to take his backpack, police said.

Bail was set at $75,000.

Police arrested Willis on Hotel Street in Chinatown.
