Small-craft advisory in effect for eastern part of the state

By Star-Advertiser staff

A small craft advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday for waters in the eastern part of the state including Maalaea Bay, Pailolo Channel, Alenuihaha Channel, and leeward and southeast off shores area of Hawaii island, the National Weather Service said.

Winds will be from the northeast to east and could reach 25 knots, or 29 mph. Seas could reach 10 feet, the weather service said.

A high-pressure ridge to the north will keep winds locally strong, the weather service said.

A small-craft advisory means winds of 29 to 38 mph or seas of 10 feet or greater are expected to produce conditions hazardous to small craft. Inexperienced mariners, especially those in small boats, are advised to stay on land.
