Shutterbug neighbor helps police nab alleged Mililani burglar

By Star-Advertiser staff

LAST UPDATED: 11:48 p.m. HST, Aug 03, 2012

An alert neighbor provided police with the photographic evidence they needed to track down an alleged burglar in Mililani this week.

Police said a 37-year-old Wahiawa man entered the kitchen of a Mililani home Wednesday about noon and stole a purse.

A neighbor noticed the suspect’s parked car and saw the man going into the home and carrying out objects. The neighbor photographed both the suspect and the license plate of the parked car. Police said they used the photographs to track down the suspect in less than two hours, arresting him on suspicion of first-degree robbery.

Right on for the neighbor!! He did the right thing and got involved instead of looking the other way. This is the kind of "shooting" that obviously works well and needs to be done by neighbors and neighborhood watches. Get the evidence, give it to the police and let the professionals (the police) confront the suspect. The Rambo kind of neighborhood watch that went on in Florida only leads to needless violence and tragedy.

Right on! This is news that I like to read about. These crooks should be given stiffer penalties. Usually they have a long rap sheet and they keep doing it because they are only given short time or probation. We need to get tough on these type of crimes as they tend to repeat. Why are they not on the registry? I'd like to know where they live so that I can know not to leave things out.

Pretty SICKENING that a 37 year old who hasn't GROWN UP and will never grow up is a petty thief. Throw the guy in jail and keep him there as obviously he doesn't belong in civilized society.

I don't think someone taking a few pictures of a robber warrants calling them a shutterbug.

My thoughts exactly. I've seen where judges let a petty thief go when he had 67 priors. All the judge said was if I see you in my court in the next six months, you'll go to jail. 67 priors and he's still out?
