Fire destroyed a home in Pearl City early Friday afternoon, leaving six people without a home Friday night.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at the 1300 block of Hoolauna Street, several blocks from Manana Community Park, about 12:43 p.m. and saw an estimated 80 percent of the house in flames, said Capt. Terry Seelig, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman.

Three of the six people who live at the three-bedroom house were home at the time and escaped without injury, Seelig said.

The American Red Cross has been called in to assist.

An investigator is looking into the cause. The fire began in one of the bedrooms, Seelig said. Damage was put at $400,000, $350,000 to the structure and $50,000 to its contents.

The fire was declared extinguished at 1:40 p.m.
