Boise State will join the Big West Conference in 2013 as the  11th member, the conference announced today.

Hawaii joined the Big West July 1st for most sports other than football.

Boise State and San Diego join effective July 1, 2013, the conference said.

"The additions of Hawai'i, San Diego State and now Boise State have presented opportunities for the Big West Conference to further grow its national profile," said Big West Commissioner Dennis Farrell in a release.

As a condition of membership, the Big West said Boise State' will pay a $2.5 million entry fee spread over five annual payments.

It also said the Broncos will also pay travel cost per conference visiting team for regular season competitions in Boise at an estimated cost of $750,000 per year, an equity share into the league's reserve to be determined at a later date and a one-time membership initiation fee estimated at $50,000.

Exactly what opportunities does adding Boise's non-football sports give the Big West?

They will be a doormat of the league. Other than football they are terrible. I assume they will pay UH the most on travel costs because of the distance, payback! If not and the same as the other teams, another screw-up. I hope our teams can fly first class, probably not, shucks!

Knowing the ways things are handled at UH, someone make positively sure that it is in black and white in the BW conference bylaws that no school seeking and receiving admission after the date of UH admittance, will receive no travel subsidy to play in Hawaii.

From what was previously mentioned, any team coming in after Hawaii does not get travel subsidies from Hawaii. But I do believe Boise State has to pay for Hawaii to go there (I hope Hawaii takes the scenic route ;) ). But you are right, UH needs it in black and white and encassed in bullet proof glass on display.

I dont get it. other than the dish out, the donks bring nothing to the conference in olympic sports except for more mediocrity. It was against Hawaii's interest, especially since this paves the way for BSU to make a Bline to the Big East in football without a remorse clause.

Let them go to the Big East, eventually after next year the Big East is going to realize their money is in basketball and will cease as a football conference. All the Eastern schools are eventually going to end up in Conference USA, ACC, Big Ten, or even the SEC and Big XII, then Boise State can join its sister, Idaho as an indepedent with no loyalties to anyone but themselves.

Actually, it was Boise's worse nightmare coming true. We all know Boise's teams hate flying to the islands to play in any sports, so why not give them a double dose of Hawaiian hospitality and blow them out in the games and have them have to pay for Hawaii to play at Boise. Factor in their footballs teams 6 road games to the East Coast and their travel subsidies to Hawaii and the other Big West teams, their goose might just lay an egg, but it won't be golden.

Boise St is gonna have the money... they're going to a BCS conference. So maybe they don't mind paying a little something to stick their non-revenue sports somewhere. And if so, then I don't mind taking their money.

Agree with your assessment. Their football program will pay for the other required sports so it's to Hawaii's benefit that they get to clobber BSU at their home but at BSU expense. Karma.

Why, other than football, Boise St brings nothing to the table in any sports that has any value, just easy wins for the Big West.
