Prosecutors charged a 36-year-old man tonight in a string of crimes stemming from a pair of confrontations with his ex-girlfriend.

Edmund Stanley, of no local address, was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of kidnapping, felony abuse of a household member, four counts of misdemeanor abuse of a household member, two counts of second-degree terroristic threatening and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.

Bail was set at $100,000.

According to police, the woman attempted to break up with the suspect on July 12 and the suspect responded by punching her repeatedly, choking her with a piece of cloth and threatening to kill her.

The woman escaped but was confronted by the suspect again on Aug. 21. The victim, a 28-year-old woman, told police that the man drove her around Waimanalo in a van, beat her with sticks and again threatened to kill her.

Police investigating a report of an argument found the suspect and victim in the van, but the suspect evaded capture by fleeing on foot. Police later determined the van was an unreported stolen vehicle.

On Tuesday, an officer involved in the stop recognized the suspect while responding to a traffic call. The officer arrested the man after a brief struggle.
