Alert bystander helps police catch suspected bus stop thief

A witness helped put a 26-year-old Nuuanu woman behind bars after the suspect allegedly stole cash from a 75-year-old man who was sitting at a bus stop in Chinatown Thursday night.

Police said the 26-year-old suspect allegedly took the cash from the pocket of a 75-year-old man at 5:50 p.m. and fled. However, police said a withness intervened and officers apprehended the suspect 30 minutes later on Fort Street Mall near a department store.

Police arrested the suspect on suspicion of second-degree theft.
