An early morning fire at a Wailuku apartment caused $2,000 worth of damage and left a senior citizen and her dog without a home.
Neighbors woke up a 90-year-old woman who was sleeping in her apartment and helped her and dog to safety, a Fire Department spokesman said.
Maui firefighters responded to the 3:41 a.m at 1090 Eha St. and found the entrance to one of the units on fire. The fire was brought under control at 3:55 a.m. and extinguished at 4:43 a.m.
Seven other people in the apartment complex also escaped without injury.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
