Junior hitter Emily Hartong put down 14 kills and freshman middle Jade Vorster tied her career-high with 12 as the sixth-ranked Hawaii volleyball team swept San Francisco 25-14, 27-25, 25-19 in tonight's second match of the Hawaiian Airlines Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Sophomore hitter Jane Croson, who missed practice earlier this week with flu-like symptoms, came off the bench for seven kills. The Rainbow Wahine (4-0) will take on Baylor in Saturday's second match.
The unranked Bears (4-0) upset No. 25 Cal in today's first match 25-23, 26-24, 25-23. The Golden Bears (1-2) will face the Dons (3-2) in Saturday's 5 p.m. match.
USF was poised to even the match with Hawaii when taking a 25-24 lead in Set 2. But the Wahine finished out the set with a 3-0 run on two kills by Croson and one by Hartong.
Hartong added five aces, four coming in Set 1. Junior libero Ali Longo anchored the Wahine defense with 10 digs.
Jocelyn Levig led the Dons with 10 kills and Ester De Vries had nine.
