Flood advisory issued for Lanai

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for Lanai after heavy rain was reported west of Lanai City.

The advisory was to expire at 11:30 p.m. today.

Forecasters say tradewinds will weaken and Kona winds from the southeast will bring humid conditions today and the possibility of heavy rain, even thundershowers tonight through Saturday, and possibly into Sunday.

Blame it on a storm system west of Kauai that is creating unstable weather conditions over the islands.

Most of the rain will fall over windward and mauka areas, but some showers could move over leeward coasts.

There’s a chance of thunderstorms over Kauai and Kona coast of Hawaii island.

Forecasters say there’s also a slight chance of waterspouts developing because of the unstable atmospheric conditions.

The cooling tradewinds should return on Monday.
