Al-Qaida's No. 2 in Yemen killed in airstrike

By Ahmed Al-Haj
Associated Press

SANAA, Yemen » Yemeni officials say an airstrike has killed al-Qaida's No. 2 leader in Yemen along with five others traveling with him in one car.

The Defense Ministry officials say Monday's attack killed the deputy, Saudi national Saeed al-Shihri, as he left a house in the southern Hadramawt province.

They say the missile was believed to have been fired by a U.S. operated drone. The U.S. doesn't usually comment on such attacks but has used drones in the past to go after al-Qaida members in Yemen.

Al-Qaida's Yemen branch is seen as the world's most active, planning and carrying out attacks against targets in and outside U.S. territory.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Good point. Almost like getting in a car with a drunk driver, you never know if you are going to reach your destination. If these guys had half a brain whien some top level militant offers them a ride, the would say "No thanks, I'll walk".

America is running amok. Go to any Country that it CAN and kill any body it wants, without a trial or conviction. All they need is the word "alleged" with the kill and it is taken as if written in Granite as guilty. Who cares if a hitchhiker is on board or his Wife and Children of the person is in the car or of the "alleged" person. I guess that in America, "alleged" killers are NOT sent to trial but straight to death row or sooner. Just cut to the chase and kill them. Save on money they don't have anyway All of this with Obama's blessing. The scholar of the non-Constitution. Pity.
