FEMA approves $1.3M for Kauai storm projects

By Associated Press

POSTED:

LIHUE, Hawaii » The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved more than $1.3 million for storm-related projects on Kauai.

The Kauai Civil Defense Agency says the federal funding will pay for 75 percent of the cost to repair or replace public property damaged by heavy rains in March. The county will cover the remainder.

The Department of Public Works will receive the bulk of the money, primarily for road and culvert repair work.

Last April, President Barack Obama signed a disaster declaration for Hawaii, making it possible for the state to receive help from FEMA.
