Romney: 'The world needs American leadership'

By Ben Feller

AP White House Correspondent

POSTED:

FAIRFAX, Va. » Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney says the "the world needs American leadership" and he would lead a nation better able to shape events rather than being at the mercy of them.

Campaigning outdoors in battleground Virginia, Romney opened Thursday with reflections of the four Americans killed in violence at the U.S. Consulate in Libya.

He tied the upheaval abroad to his pitch for a stronger military and better job opportunities at home.

Said Romney: "Your optimism is my optimism. America is coming back."

Romney blamed President Barack Obama for the potential of looming defense cuts under a budget deal the president sealed with Democrats and Republicans in Congress last year.

The GOP candidate said it seems the United States is sometimes at the "mercy of events instead of shaping events."

How pathetic of Romney to use the four Americans killed as a political tactic and an attack on Obama. Can't wait to see how bad he does if he gets elected.

We will be sorry if he gets elected, he will have little respect from the rest of the world leaders. I read that he will start receiving daily National security updates soon. Hopefully this will help him think before opening his mouth.

What a ridiculous statement. It's why the world hates us to begin with, always sticking our noses - and carrier battle-groups in their business.

It is this type of American Supremist Ideology that causes so many countries to hate America so much. We American should be proud of our abilities to assist countries seeking a better way of life. However, we should be helping to build who and what they are and not trying to make them more like Americans. Also, where has Romney been? It was the majority of American citizens that wanted our troops to come home, not the President of the United States . . . And, instead of condemning the President during this Election Campaigning Season, better time would be spent supporting the families and country for this hideous crime.

True..Romnii is anxious for more wars and he, like lingle, wants to send YOUR children and grandchildren to war for Israeli interests. You can be sure that none of his 5 sons will have to go to war.

I am glad someone is standing up and saying that America needs to assert herself. The whole world hates us? Baloney... that's a load of cr@p. Yeah, the guys who kill folks with different religious views hate us. Extremists hate us. Too bad.
