Hawaii County fire rescue personnel rescued a man and a woman who became lost while searching for maile in the Olaa Forest Reserve Monday afternoon.
The man, 48, and the woman, 33, were spotted by a rescue helicopter and airlifted to the Volcano transfer station about 1 p.m., fire officials said. The hikers, who were not injured, were unfamiliar with the area and did not stay on the trail, fire officials said.
