Kalihi man charged in beating of barmaid

By Star-Advertiser staff

A Kalihi man has been charged for repeatedly beating a 45-year-old woman until she lost consciousness at a Kapiolani bar in July.

Hanns Lafoia, 44, was arrested Tuesday based on several tips to CrimeStoppers. He was charged with second-degree assault. His bail was set at $25,000.

In August, police issued a CrimeStoppers alert seeking the public’s help in locating a man wanted for severely beating the manager of Ellie’s Club.

Police said the suspect got into an argument with an employee of the club just after midnight on July 8.

The manager intervened and was struck numerous times. She was taken to the hospital in serious condition with numerous facial fractures.
