Cayetano to reveal plan for Honolulu traffic

By Oskar Garcia

Associated Press

POSTED:

Former Hawaii Gov. Ben Cayetano is planning to reveal an alternate solution to a $5 billion rail line to ease traffic on Oahu.

The mayoral candidate planned an 11:15 a.m. news conference today at a car dealership near Honolulu's airport to share his plans.

The campaign has become a referendum on the plan, which has split voters and drawn passion from many on both sides of the issue.

Cayetano faces former Acting Mayor Kirk Caldwell in the Nov. 6 election. Incumbent Mayor Peter Carlisle was ousted in the August primary.

Cayetano entered the race to oppose the rail's construction.

Not this rail. Piece of scrapmetal that FHB sold to the low informed and their corrupt politicians.

Yes, kill rail and buy more cars from my car dealership headquarters! Step right up folks, you can get a two for one deal with JN, just see Joe over there at the white table next to the exit. Every car bought is a contribution to my campaign. Also sign the petition for more condos in Kakaako!

Just saw the Cayetano plan. Makes a huge amount of sense. One-fifth the cost, actually addresses the traffic problems at key intersections, employs forward technology and can be implemented before I die. Go Ben.
