Maui firefighters battle brush fire that came within 50 feet of homes

Maui firefighters Thursday fought a two-acre Kihei brush fire that came within 50 feet of the nearest home.

No property was damaged and no injuries were reported, a fire official said.

Fire crews brought the blaze, which was reported at 2:35 p.m., under control in about two hours at 4:30 p.m. and extinguished it at 5:30 p.m.

The fire occurred at a vacant lot at the end of Waiono Place between Namauu Place and Waiopo Street.
