Lifeguards posted warning signs at Maili Beach Monday afternoon after two “aggressive” sharks were sighted in the water, a spokeswoman for the city Department of Emergency Services said.

After assessing the situation, lifeguards took the signs down at 3 p.m.

It’s not clear what kind of sharks were involved.

Are the warning signs for the benefit of the shart or the swimmers?

Sure wish observers of aggressive behavior had been interviewed. Many of us are very interested in shark behavior, and it bugs us to be left hanging, wondering what was going on. Just a couple sentences on specific behavior would probably do. Were they flashing gang signs or making other insulting gestures with their pectoral fins? Giving stink eye? Manifesting the agonistic behavior common to gray reef sharks?
