Returning tradewinds should slowly push vog away

Don’t worry, the tradewinds are returning and should slowly start blowing the vog away from Oahu.

That’s the message from the National Weather Service about the lingering haze in the air.

“The trade winds have started coming back,” said Henry Lau, a forecaster with the National Weather Service.

“There will still be a lingering haze as the trades build westward. There may still be a slight tint in the air tomorrow morning.”

A weather system northwest of the islands that had been blocking the trades and creating southerly, Kona weather conditions is slowly moving away from the state.

That’s allowing the trade winds to return to the eastern end of the island chain. As the weather system moves west, trades should gradually return to Oahu today.

As the air clears for the weekend, forecasters say breathe deeply and enjoy the clear air and windward and mauka showers while they last.

Another weather system is building northwest of Hawaii and may block the trade winds again next week, allowing for a return of muggy Kona weather and vog around Wednesday.

The media has been saying since Monday that the trades would be back "tomorrow". So far never happen. I'll believe it when I see it. So far, today the vog is worse than ever.

I'm on my third day of a headache because of the vog. Don't play with my emotions like that.

I never understood the big deal about vog, really. I understand people with asthma or allergies would have a hard time, but otherwise it's just a haze. I mean, I ran 3 miles in it the other day with no problems. Still though, I need the tradewinds cause this heat is unbearable!
