No one was hurt when a silver Toyota sedan driven by an elderly woman jumped a curb and hit the glass front of a shop at Aina Haina Shopping Center at midday Monday.

The car smashed the left side of Bee Green Cleaners.

“I heard a loud noise,” said Shami Rafanan, who was the only employee in the cleaners at the time of the accident. Rafanan said glass shattered 10 feet from her but she was uninjured. David Murphy, owner of Bee Green Cleaners, said, “Significant damage was done to half of the storefront.”

Matt Muranaka, manager of the adjacent Genki Sushi, said patrons were seated outside of the restaurant at noon.

Fire Department personnel examined the woman and allowed her to go home with her son, who went to pick her up.

What's with all these cars jumpimg the sidewalks and going into Shiro's Restaurant, the Chinese Restaurant in Kaneohe, and now this dry cleaner in Aina Haina. Next thing you know, all the shopping centers have to put those pole barriers on the sidewalk.

The public is at risk with these elderly drivers. Get them tested more often by having them run through obstacle courses and test reaction times to keep their license. Someone's gonna get nailed one of these days just walking through a shopping center.
