Workers completed repairs on a 6-inch waterline and repaired the road damage to Kalanianaole Highway in Waimanalo this morning, but a car crash nearby closed another section of the road.

Severe road damage from a break on a waterline that feeds a fire hydrant closed Kalanianaole Highway at about 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Traffic was diverted onto Poalima Street. and then onto Hihimanu Street while repairs were made.

The Board of Water Supply said it is unknown how many customers were temporarily without water. Workers tried to limit the water closure to the hydrant only near 41-1517 Kalanianaole Highway.

The break on the hydrant line, which was originally installed in 1963, was fixed by about 4:30 a.m.

SEE! Another water line break. Every week, there is at least one. When is the City going to be taking care of basic infrastructure instead of spending all our money on the ill conceived rail project?
