Small brush fire comes close to three homes

Three Maui fire companies and the department’s helicopter were deployed to a brush fire near Kahului Sunday afternoon.

A storage shed was scorched with an estimated $500 in damage in the fire off of Honokohau Valley Road. The fire occurred about an eighth of a mile into the valley and burned half an acre.

Maui firefighters received the alarm at 2:04 p.m. and extinguished the blaze at 5:39 p.m.

The fire came as close as 15 feet to three homes. Occupants evacuated, but there were no damage to the homes.
