All lanes of Pensacola Street have been reopened, according to the Board of Water Supply. Crews completed repairs to the road and the broken water main near Hoolai Street.

Repair work was initially expected to take most of today.

A few unexpected discoveries by work crews did not help to expedite repairs.

A bone fragment was discovered at 6 p.m. Monday. It was turned over to homicide detectives who later determined through forensic exmaninations this morning that it belonged to an animal, a Board of Water Supply spokeswoman said.

Overnight repairs were complicated by other underground utilities and the depth of the pipe, which required shoring.

Water service, which had been cut off since 2:30 p.m. Monday, was restored by 5 a.m. to seven customers, including three low-rise apartment buildings,

The break occurred on a 6-inch main, which was originally installed in 1941.

I used to complain that it seems like every week there was a water main break somewhere but now it seems to be happening every day. If the rail is built, it will only get worse. We might all have to buy a boat.

I'll bet it is either a chicken or pork chop bone left there after an earlier line break.
