Craig T. Kojima / ckojima@staradvertiser.comJacob Le pleaded not guilty in Honolulu District Court on Monday to the Oct. 3 stabbing death of Brent Keolaokalani Kanae.

An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment this morning charging Jacob Le with murder in the stabbing death of his friend and fellow break-dancer.

Le followed Brent Keolaokalani Kanae into a stairwell at Ala Moana Center on Oct. 3 and sneaked up behind him as he was talking on his cellular telephone, said Keith Seto, deputy city prosecutor. Le is accused of stabbing Kanae three times in the chest.

Kanae, 23, of Kapahulu, died from massive bleeding to his heart and lungs.

Le, 26, is in custody charged with killing Kanae, and Circuit Judge Richard Perkins confirmed Le’s bail at $250,000.

After initially denying involvement in Kanae’s death, police said Le later confessed to stabbing Kanae.

Kanae was a line cook at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company at Ala Moana Center.

The stairwell where a witness found Kanae coughing up blood is near the restaurant.

Le and Kanae belonged to the same hip-hop, break dancing group. Le even performed a dance at

Kanae’s funeral in tribute to his friend. That was before police said Le confessed to the stabbing.

jacob le didn't think he would get caught. he thought he was cunning enough to pull the wool over the laws eyes. He has learned that that is not true and now will face the consequences of his stupidity. he needs to be put away for the safety of the people of our state. If you can kill once you can kill again. let this be a lesson to him and others who believe that you can take someones life and life as you know it will not change. Wrong!!!! Your life as you knew it will never be the same and you have only yourself to blame.

But WHY? What caused him to do it? What an incredible, and pointless, tragedy.

@ copperwire9, both men dated the same woman, but not simultaneously. The murderer was jilted, according to another news article.

as sad as it is, humans have killed for love lost. Doesn't make it right. I have no idea if this is what happened in this case but if it is it's still murder.
