A 1-mile stretch of beach on Maui was closed Saturday afternoon after a woman was bitten by a shark while paddling into shore.
The 51-year-old tourist from California suffered puncture wounds to her right inner thigh and cuts to her hand.
She estimated the shark to be 10 to 12 feet long.
Her injuries were not life-threatening. She was taken to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition.
The Maui Fire Department said the incident happened about 3:56 p.m., when the victim was paddling into shore with her husband.
Following the incident, authorities closed a stretch of shoreline from Maluaka Beach to Changs Beach near Makena Landing.
