Woman critically injured on Highway 11 on Hawaii island

A woman, about 30, was struck by a motor vehicle at 6:38 p.m. Tuesday in Kona, a fire official said.

The pedestrian was found on the side of Highway 11 and taken in critical condition to the Kona Community Hospital.

Police are investigating the accident. Police closed Highway 11 and routed traffic onto Keei and Napoopoo roads. The accident occurred in Kealakekua near the 106 mile marker on Highway 11, or Hawaii Belt Road, the fire official said.
