Police arrest teen who allegedly stabbed his grandmother

By Rosemarie Bernardo

LAST UPDATED: 09:05 p.m. HST, Nov 02, 2012

Police tonight arrested a 19-year-old man who is suspected of stabbing his 70-year-old grandmother early this morning in her Waialae Avenue apartment.

Suspect Charles “Kealii” Amoy was caught in the University area about 6 p.m. after police issued an alert about the stabbing, and arrested for investigation of second-degree attempted murder.

The woman remains in critical condition at Queen’s Medical Center after she was allegedly stabbed multiple times today.

Neighbors identified the victim as Aileen Amoy.

The stabbing happened at about 1:40 a.m. today at 3002 Waialae Ave., a three-story apartment building behind Sakura Restaurant & Pupu Bar.

The victim reported her grandson was responsible for her injuries, police said. Charles Amoy was last seen jumping into a nearby drainage canal. police said.

Police opened an attempted murder investigation.

Yellow police tape ran across part of the exterior side of the apartment’s two-panel front window where five glass jalousie louvers were missing and the screen was dislodged.

Neighbors said they were awakened by flashing lights from police and ambulance.

Peter Pulido said he was shocked to hear about the stabbing and hopes Aileen Amoy’s condition improves. “We want her to pull through,” said Pulido, whom he calls “Aunty Aileen.” She has lived in the three-story building for more than 20 years and has always been there to help her grandson, he said.

You thnk it's only a dumping ground sending a kid who's done this to the military and as if they would accept him after the fact. And that's the problem with your thinking You'd draft the young adults like this one prior to any criminal activity, teach em a trade, pay for their college, teach em discipliine, etc. So hopefully they come out as productive US citizens that contributes to society. There's so many gang-banging killers in Chicago that all thrown under the rug. And get this, it's President Barrack Obama's home State that he hails from and it is since that where he resided before and having an elected seat to boot.

i dont think u want to send murders to the military, theres no logic in it. why send them to a school that will teach them to kill more effectively. maybe you should reconsider your thought

So Pocho if you send the murderers and degenerates into the military, would you like to be serving along side them during a war. Could you depend on them and would you feel confident that they would watch your back. Seeing how their judgement already is, would you feel safe? The military needs intelligent people with STRONG MORAL CHARACTER! People in the military need people they can trust. They at least deserve that for protecting us.

if anything military should not be the answer to everything for the failures of society, but better parenting. It always has started with the parenting, if the parents were more strict to give boundaries or even to push their son/daughter to succeed in life after childhood to be a productive member of society rather than be the problem, we wouldnt have this problem. With parents getting younger and younger, most them are not ready to take on that kind of responsibility but whos the blame for something like that? parents. It always leads to back to parenting. You cant expect the military to solve societies problems, even they cause some problems as well with PTSD, etc. so in my opinion your point is viable but not effective in solving societies problems such as these, as long as their is lack there of parenting this problem will continue. We as a community need to attack the problem at the root, and not at the leaves.

What Pocho is saying is that the kid might do well in the military after high school, not after he commited the crime. All of this could have been avoided. His grandmother was helping him out. There are a lot of kids without college education and a lot of families just don't have the money to send them to college, If you join the military, it might straighten you out and you can use the G.I. Bill. The military will give you clothes, feed you, put a roof over your head and pay you a small salary, well, until you are promoted. If you accept the Montgomery Bill (G.I. Bill), the government will pay for your education while you are in the military or after you are done with the military. My friend stayed in the Marine Corp for 30 years and retired an E-9, he receives over $3.000 per month. At retirement he also received 2 Bachelor's degree (he attended night school while in the military). Now he has a great job, since retiring on top of his military pension. He had joined up after hight school (18 years), so he was 48 when he retired. All you need to do is to apply yourself. Oh yes, not to forget his PX & Commissary priviledges and Tri-care for life (medical insurance) all paid for. I try to instill this into all the kids, but they're afraid of the joining the military. They don't want to die! Gotta take a chance, It's not only for you, but for your GOD & Country.

The government is too big already, and that's why we have higher unemployment, higher inflation, lower wages, and it hasn't even hit the fan yet. Wait until the world stops loaning us money. Things will get really bad unless they cut 50% of the government. Sure things will be bad in the short run, but alot better in the long run. By kicking the can down the road, printing all this money, failing to cut the 16 trillion dollar deficit, the crash, when it comes, will be much, much worse. Better to take the pain now, than much more a few years from now.

I can bet it is linked to drugs, almost 99% of the time these crimes are the result of a family member or friend not willing to give the addict money to support their habit and they go off. Unfortunately it happens way too many times to the elderly.

Pocho and his friends apparently get their opinions of the military from watching old movies. Sorry, reality is a lot different! The military tries to weed out applicants with crimminal or anti-social behavior. Once in, they cause a discipline and morale problem. They adversly affect the readiness of the unit, since their superiors are spending an inordinate amount of time dealing with the problems they cause. In short, they are generally undisciplined, untrustworthy and unwilling to conform to the teamwork necessary to the group. It is very seldom that these trouble makers are ever "straightened out" to become model citizens.
