Woman who drove on sidewalk must wear 'idiot' sign

By Associated Press

LAST UPDATED: 04:36 a.m. HST, Nov 06, 2012

CLEVELAND » A woman caught on camera driving on a sidewalk to avoid a Cleveland school bus that was unloading children will have to stand at an intersection wearing a sign warning about idiots.

Court records show a Cleveland Municipal Court judge on Monday ordered 32-year-old Shena Hardin to stand at an intersection for two days next week. She will have to wear a sign saying: "Only an idiot drives on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus."

The judge ordered her to wear the sign from 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. both days.

Hardin's license was suspended for 30 days and she was ordered to pay $250 in court costs.

Messages seeking comment were left at a telephone listing for Hardin and at her attorney's office.

The state should distribute sealed tamper-proof automatic cameras to volunteers which can be mounted on their car dashboards. With that we could catch and punish.the 50% who never signal and all the numerous other violators..

Poor citizenship is demonstrated by this individual with utter disregard of responsibility to community. Too bad they are among us and we have to tolerate their unruly behavior. Sad!

I see people fail to stop for the school bus that stops in front of my place on a regular basis. I've also seen people drive on the bike path on Waialua Beach RD in order to get past a rubbish truck. They couldn't seem to wait for the oncming traffic to ease up in order to get around the rubbish truck.

They should triple the fine for people who don't stop; same goes for the people who speed thru the school zones during the morning and afternoon hours when there are children around. I've seen it so many times down Waialua. Even if the sign is blinking 20mph, people zip thru and even drive on the dirt because they are so impatient...like a few seconds is going to make a difference...what idiotic fools! I wish they could post an officer there during those hours to enforce the speed limit which I think should be dropped down to 15mph.

What about the mentally challenged that go around cars trying to turn left, but using a grassy shoulder that leads directly to another street and bus stop? People that travel from mokapu saddle to kaneohe, you know where I'm talking about, and you know who you are! Slow the heck down and observe the laws of the road. All you need is for a car to come out from that side street, or a bus to pull in to that stop and a serious accident will occur. Be patient!
