Police have opened the H-1 Freeway eastbound between Bingham Street and Wilder Avenue after a truck fire earlier this morning forced them to close off the freeway for two hours.

At one time, both east and westbound lanes of the freeway near Punahou School were closed.

The eastbound lanes were reopened at 10:35 a.m.

There were no injuries to the driver and a passenger.

Police said the truck was carrying an air conditioner unit and other flammable type materials in its bed.

The truck was traveling eastbound at 8:41 a.m. on the H-1, just passing Bingham Street off-ramp when the driver was told by a passing motorist that the truck was on fire.

Due to unknown items exploding in the truck bed, the H-1 Freeway East bound was closed off for safety reasons with assistance and traffic was diverted from H-1 East onto Punahou and Bingham Streets, police said.
