Mo-ped rider in serious condition after collision with car in Kaimuki

A 67-year-old man was taken to the hospital in serious condition after the mo-ped he was driving collided with a car in Kaimuki.

The accident occurred at 9:23 a.m. at Waialae and Koko Head Avenues.

Though this may not apply to this situation, I have seen many moped riders weaving in and outside between vehicles often nearly avoiding collisions. When will HPD begin cracking down on these clowns? Aren't they supposed to follow the same laws of operating a motorized vehicle on the road?

Maybe more likely scenario with this rider is diminished ability and reflexes to safely ride a two wheeled vehicle due to advanced age? This elderly moped rider might not be 100 percent at fault but the older one gets, the slower their reflexes and ability to drive defensively to avoid collision. It is already very dangerous for moped and bicycle riders on Oahu's roads to deal with drivers who continue to yap on their cellphones and are not paying attention, do NOT use turn signals when turning or changing lanes, disregard stop signs or red lights, etc
