Hawaii County officials are organizing a new game management commission in line with the wishes of Hawaii island voters.

The mayor's executive assistant, Char Shigemura, told the Hawaii Tribune-Herald commission will likely draw interest from hunters and fishermen, but it's open to all citizens.

Hawaii island hunters pushed to create the Game Management Advisory Commission so they would have a voice in the management of fish and game.

Many Hawaii island hunters have disagreed with the way state Department of Land and Natural Resources manages wild animals.

Voters in favor of a ballot measure creating the commission by 59 percent to 31 percent in the Nov. 6 general election. About ten percent left the question blank.
