Kalihi man, 66, to appear in court in pedestrain rage case

By Star-Advertiser staff

LAST UPDATED: 10:04 a.m. HST, Nov 27, 2012

Pedestrian rage apparently got the better of a 66-year-old Kalihi Valley man who was charged Monday with unlawfully entering a car and striking the driver.

Bail for Moses Solomon was set at $25,000 and he is slated to appear in Circuit Court this week to face a charge of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.

The incident occurred at 11:50 a.m. Sunday as the suspect crossed North School Street in a marked crosswalk. The 20-year-old woman almost hit Solomon with her car and the two exchanged profanities when Solomon allegedly hit the woman, police said.

Ho sak, take it easy. It's just a few really STUPID ones that give the good people a bad name. A lot of great people in those areas that don't deserve that label.

Never happen! Assuming it ever goes to trial and he's convicted, he'll end up with a suspended sentence or a severe admonishment from the court.

Drive with aloha. Keep your eyes on the road and your fingers on the steering wheel. Lose the attitude. You really don't know who you are messing with. There are a lot of criminals driving around. Unless you can handle yourself HPD won't be there to help you while some crazy is beating you during the minutes it takes to get there.

Nothing personal pedestrians. People in Hawaii just don't know how to drive. I watched an SUV almost kill a kid in front of Roosevelt this morning. Driver didn't even notice that she passed within a foot of him, in a marked cross walk.

Yeah, saw a similar incident on King Street and Keeaumoku one morning. What the guy did was wrong but maybe the young girl will curb her tongue next time. Mouth off and ticked the old man off.

On the other hand, I almost got hit while in a marked crosswalk, with the Walk sign, at noontime. Visibility was the max and I had to jump out of the way to keep from getting hit, by a car making a left turn from Punchbowl onto Queen Street. I rested my hand on the car hood as the woman said she didn't see me, with her cell phone in her hand. That really shook me up. And that woman needs to hang up and pay attention to her driving.

I sympathize with the man. I don't excuse him for hitting the woman, but I understand how he feels. I nearly got run over this morning by a driver who failed to stop, or even slow down, as he made a right turn through the crosswalk on a red light as I and another guy stepped off the curb to cross Kapiolani Blvd. Came within a few feet of serious injury or death. They're going to charge him with unauthorized entry? What about the woman driving the car? She should be charged with endangering a pedestrian in a crosswalk, at least.

Im hoping my comment will shed some light on this situation, to where we as human beings will realize we are jus that, HUMAN! It's always easy to assume or criticize on things like this especially if the full story was not told. Being a bystander to this incident was a sad thing for me to witness, although this gentleman shouldnt have slapped her face she was very agressive with her words and saluted her middle finger from beginning to end while chanting "f you old man" on something that she was at fault for, not to mention she had a male passenger with her in the vehicle who had rants of his own. My opinion is this, I dont think this 20 yr old woman expected him to do that which is why the taunting continued, but my question was? "Would she have done that or acted that way if the person wasnt a 66 yr old man? maybe someone her age or maybe even a woman with the same body frame". I dont think so! It's not about a man being a punk from Kalihi, if that's the case I could easily say it's about SOME young adults these days have little to no respect at all, but who am I to judge? This was just a situation that got way out of hand and I pray that all goes well for everyone.
