A high-surf advisory remains in effect for north-facing shores of Kauai, Niihau, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and Hawaii island until 6 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters say a long-period north swell should push wave heights up to 16 feet along north-facing shores.
The big surf will cause hazardous conditions in surf zones and life-threatening rip currents, officials say.
Beachgoers are urged to stay out of the water and away from the shore break.
