Maui fire burns 1.5 acres of sugar cane

About 1.5 acres of sugar cane was burned Friday evening in what the Maui Fire Department is referring to as an “unscheduled cane fire” in Paia.
The fire was first reported at 5:48 p.m. and was brought under control at 6:37 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and damage estimates are not yet available.
