HPD closing portions of H-1, H-3 tonight for escort training

By Star-Advertiser staff

LAST UPDATED: 06:41 p.m. HST, Dec 04, 2012

The Honolulu Police Department is planning to shut down portions of both sides of H-1 and H-3 freeways from the airport to the Windward side for escort training tonight from 8 to 9:30 p.m.

Portions of Kaneohe Bay Drive will also be closed.

Motorists are advised to avoid these areas and use alternate areas during those times.

President Barack Obama is expected to be on Oahu later this month for his annual holiday trip. His visits require HPD escorts.

The cops should just choose somebody at random arriving at the airport who lives in Kailua and "escort" him home. Can you imagine rolling up in front of your house with the full month of escorts.

I think that a presidential escort involves more than just throttle and clutch. It's more than just "riding" and requires training.

i think it really is that simple. They're not building a special road for him. Its not the first time hes been here. Its not the first president thats been here. I thnk its a matter of too much bikers trying to whip it and end up losing control

May Obamaclause give all the homeless a government job. Maybe they can't count the sand particles at Ala Moana Beach for the next 5 years as they stimulate the economy.

The doughnut eaters are piling up big time overtime tonight. Nothing like stopping traffic a half hour before the 'motorcade' arrives. If cops in DC or NYC tried this stuff, they'd be fired.

When the president is here and decides to golf, eat out or have dinner in town, he doesn't need or have 40 doughnut eaters driving around with him. They just get in the way of the Secret Service.
