A 60-year-old surfer was transported to a hospital after he was attacked by a shark today at a popular surf spot on Kauai’s west shore.

At about 1:20 p.m., the surfer suffered a shark bite on his left foot while surfing at Infinities at Pakala Beach. He was transported to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital in a private vehicle, according to Kauai County spokeswoman Sarah Blane.

The surfer’s condition and extent of his injuries were immediately unknown.

The shark was described as about 10 feet long.

Kauai crews will post warning signs at the beach.

The shark attack was the eleventh recorded this year in Hawaiian waters.

Did this guy or any other surfer out in the water not see that picture posted in the news yesterday of a school of sharks feeding close to shore? Clearly, there's been a change in the enviroment, specifically in our waters close to shore. An unusually high number of shark bites in recent months.

also its the time of the last 2 months that the sharks come in to have there pups at this time of the year. so if there were baby sharks in that part of the water the mother shark could be protecting her pups and thats why we have recent shark bites
