Kealakehe High School is canceling classes today for safety reasons following a large-scale fight that resulted in the arrest of eight students at the Kona campus Thursday afternoon.

No one required medical attention, Hawaii County police said.

Patrol officers were sent to the school about 1:30 p.m. following a report of a fight  involving between 20 to 30 students, police said. By the time officers arrived, most of the crowd had begun dispersing.

Seven male students and one female student were charged with disorderly conduct and released.

The school went on lockdown and all after-school activities were canceled Thursday afternoon.
