Firefighters extinguish small Manoa fire

By Star-Advertiser staff

POSTED:

Firefighters contained a small fire behind a home in Manoa before it could spread this afternoon.

The fire behind a home at 3742 Lower Road backed up traffic on Woodlawn Drive and sent smoke over the residential area.

Police closed Woodlawn Drive until about 5 p.m., while firefighters made sure the fire was extinguished and removed their equipment.

Honolulu fire spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said the fire was under control less than 17 minutes after authorities received the call at 3:41 p.m..

Piles of yard debris, including palm fronds and bamboo in a 15 square-foot-area caught fire, Seelig said.

The nearest residence was 20 feet away and no damage occurred to any homes, he said.

Come on now that wasn't a fire. It was just an elevated temperature event.
