Hawaii County fire investigators are investigating the cause of a $300,000 fire that killed a woman Tuesday night in Honokaa.

When firefighters responded to the 8:20 p.m. alarm Tuesday on Kahana Drive near Old Mamalahoa Highway they found the single-story structure engulfed in flames.

The fire was brought under control at 10:23 p.m. and was extinguished at 3:36 a.m.

Neighbors reported that one person was missing and the woman’s body was found after the fire was brought under control.

Thank you for using, "Hawaii County," in this sad news, instead of, "Big Island." The name of the island and the county is, "Hawaii," and has been from ancient times until it seemed like a great tourist attracting gimmick to call it BIG. If New York can get away with having two geographical units named, "New York," so can Hawaii. I'm sure that ka poe Hawaii are just as able to make such distinctions.

Considering the time it occurred, it looks suspicious.
