High-surf advisory for east shores extended to 6 p.m. Friday

The National Weather Service has extended a high surf advisory for east-facing shores by 24 hours, to 6 p.m. Friday.
The advisory is in effect for east-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and Hawaii island.
The weather service says surf could reach six- to eight feet. It says breaking waves will cause hazardous conditions, including dangerous rip currents in the surf zone.
A trade wind swell associated with a high-pressure system far north of the state is generating the surf.
The city Department of Emergency Management said the surf will peak Thursday. Surf will be 7 to 9 feet, gradually lowering to 6 to 8 feet.
