Authorities hunt down alleged thief hiding in Kawainui swamp

By Star-Advertiser staff

POSTED:

Police and state officials teamed up this week to catch a theft suspect who had camped out in Kawainui swamp.

The 27-year-old suspect had established an encampment in the Kaelepulu Stream area near the Kawainui dike mangrove and authorities had to use a canoe to get there.

When police officers and Department of Land and Natural Resources enforcement officers approached the man, who was hiding in the bushes, the suspect fled.

A foot chase ensued and the suspect was apprehended and placed under arrest for two warrants and felony theft.
